The UK tour begins.... Day 1
So the loose idea....
I have 7 weeks to ride around as much of the coast of the UK as I can in training for the Tour Divide in June.
So Day 1 arrives and of course I’m not ready, but sometimes you just have to jump into things even if it’s not gracefully lol.
So poor Firefly is massively over packed, a combination of me carrying some equipment for comparing, the tent and bivvy. Then I also have extras as the UK is a more chilled out trip and experience in its own right. 🚴🏼♀️💫
So you’d think if I was riding the coast I’d head to the nearest Coast on day one and that was the plan, to head to Kings Lynn and then down and round the UK clockwise. Thing is I’m not one for plans and on waking I felt myself drawn to scotland and also randomly a warm, open air swimming pool in Hathersage, so I flipped the planned route on its head and set off.
So Day 1 Ashby to Hathersage, 52.79 miles, took forever as the bike packing kit weighs loads and really slowed me down. Staying in a YHA which is a relief as pooped!
So a day of being grateful to hit the road and start the adventure but also lots of self encouragement and telling myself it’s all fine and I will get fitter lol.
My first sunset and a beautiful one at that...
